Crash Encore
"Stormy Weather"
Vitals
‘Rain drops that I make, keep dripping down my face…’ Making rain drops? Hmmm… never done that before. Sounds like a hoot.
The band has a huge following in their home town of San Diego, so we thought it’d be cool to shoot down there. Kathy Mcurdy with the San Diego Film Commission gave us a personal tour of the city, which we recreated for the miniature. Dealing with the SD film commission, and Kathy in general, was a breath of fresh air after dealing with LA’s for so long.. (if ya don’t know, now ya know..)
For our raindrop manufacturing plant, we needed a cool space to build our miniature and a junkyard filled with… well, junk. Fortunately, the boys just happened to have access to both. Strat was renovating a dope studio space for a ProTools school. Thus, we had our location. It was even empty and freshly painted. Score!
They also just happened to have a practice space located inside a welding/junkyard facility. Like kids on an Easter egg hunt, Jeff and I found ourselves in a virtual rainmaking paradise. We pillaged the junkyard grabbing everything from antique air compressors, to welding masks. We didn’t know what we were building exactly, but we did know that rain drops don’t cool themselves. Doi. So we snagged the industrial sized fan too.
Turns out Theron James Royer, Jr. (aka: TJ), is more than just the guitar player, he’s also a handyman extraordinaire, and a kinder garden teacher. We raided his classroom for various rainmaking apparatus as well… See his handy work here.
We built the miniature over two VERY LONG days.
Check the time-lapse.
This was the first music video Jeff and I collaborated on as a company. And we’re damn proud of it.
